Listen to the news

Insiders who bought HK$16.0m worth of Cornerstone Technologies Holdings Limited (HKG:8391) stock in the last year recovered part of their losses as the stock rose by 10.0% last week. However, the purchase is proving to be an expensive wager as insiders are yet to get ahead of their losses which currently stand at HK$5.4m since the time of purchase.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Cornerstone Technologies Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Executive Director Yanyan Wu for HK$15m worth of shares, at about HK$0.50 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of HK$0.33. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own.
