Geothermal company Fervo Energy has signed a major agreement to sell electricity from a Utah project to Alphabet's Google. The project plans to build the world's largest enhanced geothermal power plant. This power purchase agreement for nearly 400 megawatts of electricity can meet the electricity needs of a medium-sized city. It is also the largest electricity deal in Fervo's history. Fervo plans to supply electricity to Google from the Cape Power Station project in southwestern Utah starting in 2028. Houston-based Fervo uses technology pioneered by oil and gas drillers to build geothermal reservoirs by fracturing rock layers to generate electricity. The company will invest more than $2 billion for the Cape Power Plant, and the first phase of the project is expected to begin delivering electricity to the grid later this year.
