Israel and Greece signed an arms purchase agreement worth 3 billion euros in Tel Aviv on August 31. Israel said that this is the most expensive arms purchase agreement between the two countries so far. According to the agreement, Greece will buy the “Achilles Shield” air defense system from Israel. This air defense system can intercept ballistic missiles, fighter jets, and drones. Its core equipment is radars and missiles developed by Israeli military companies. The two sides also signed a supplementary agreement worth 26 million euros on the same day to provide anti-drone systems to Greece by the Israeli military company “Rafael”. The Greek Ministry of Defense said that this arms purchase is part of a large-scale reform plan for the country's armed forces, and Greece will be the first EU member state to deploy a multi-layer air defense system.
