Sweden Orders Four Air Defense Frigates from France's Naval Group

12:04 AM EDT, 09/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Sweden is purchasing four air defense frigates from French naval defense company Naval Group, according to a Monday release. In a deal formalized the same day and signed by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and French President Emmanuel Macron, delivery of the order to the Swedish Armed Forces is scheduled to start in 2030. The frigates will feature advanced anti-aircraft and anti-submarine systems, as well as the capacity to establish sea superiority. The transaction is part of efforts to bolster Swedish-French security policy cooperation in matters including defense materiel and industrial development.
