Recently, several Chinese citizens reported to our museum that some lawbreakers impersonated our staff and spread false notices about organizing a “Consular Service into the Community” overseas certification campaign to defraud people of personal information. The Chinese Consulate General in New York reminds Chinese citizens in the Eastern United States that information about our “Consular Service into the Community” campaign will only be posted through the official website, WeChat account, or Xiaohongshu account. Notifications will not be made in the form of SMS, phone calls, etc., let alone directly request personal information through SMS or phone calls. Please do not disclose personally identifiable information to strangers in text messages or phone calls. If you receive suspected fraudulent information or phone calls, please do not reply or call back to avoid falling into the trap of fraudsters. If you are unlucky enough to be scammed, causing personal information to be leaked or property damaged, please promptly call the police at your place of residence.
