As the country's first local standard specifically targeting the use of green packaging by food and beverage takeaway merchants, the “Guidelines for the Use of Green Packaging by Food and Beverage Takeaway Merchants” issued by the Beijing Municipal Administration of Market Supervision and Administration will be officially implemented starting today. In response to the current situation where food and beverage takeout categories are diverse and have different characteristics, the “Guidelines” subdivides food packaging into two categories: “simple packaging” and “sealed packaging,” which balances practical needs with environmental protection goals. In terms of simple packaging, the “Guidelines” make specific suggestions for different foods: buns and cakes can be packaged in bags; hamburgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, etc. should be reduced in the number of packaging layers; pizzas and cakes are recommended to use paper lunch boxes; stir-fries, rice bowls, etc. are packaged directly with aluminum foil and sealed bags; fried cakes and deep-fried foods should be packaged with biodegradable materials; dumplings and sushi can be packaged in a split design.
