The Zhitong Finance App learned that Tesla (TSLA.US) has launched a rear-wheel drive version of the Model 3 with a lower price and simplified configuration in Hong Kong, China, and Macau, China. The starting prices are HK$205,000 (about US$26,000) and MOP 252,000 (US$31,000), respectively.

According to reports, the price of the new model in Hong Kong has been reduced by 8.5% compared to the previous entry-level model. According to reports, this version has streamlined or downgraded some interior and exterior configurations, including interior textile fabrics, audio, wheels, etc.

This is not the first time Tesla has leveraged the regional market with a “dividend reduction and price reduction” strategy. In October 2025, Tesla launched the Model 3/Y standard version in the US, and the starting price was reduced by 5,000 to 5,500 US dollars compared to the previous entry-level version; in January 2026, the “cheap version” Model 3 in the Korean market was equivalent to about RMB 174,000 after the subsidy.

Just before the Hong Kong and Macau simplified version was launched, Tesla experienced a large-scale recall in the Chinese market. Last month, Tesla and eight other car companies recalled a total of about 4.3 million cars due to hidden door handles that may be difficult to open in an emergency. Of these, Tesla alone involved nearly 3 million vehicles. The recalled models covered major models such as Model 3 and Model Y.
