On August 28, UAE Telecom and the Digital Government Regulatory Authority issued a 10-year general satellite service license to SpaceX's Starlink, allowing it to build, operate and manage public satellite telecommunication networks and provide satellite broadband internet services in the UAE. The Starlink service will cover individuals, businesses, and government agencies, and provide satellite connectivity for the maritime and aviation sectors. TDRA said the license will enable satellite networks to become part of the UAE's national digital infrastructure, complement optical fiber and 5G networks, enhance digital infrastructure resilience and service continuity, and support key industries and emergency response.
