Uber revealed that after the company ran out of its IT budget in the first quarter of this year, AI-related spending has stabilized even though AI usage has soared sharply. This is the latest example of a company looking for ways to expand the scale of artificial intelligence applications while avoiding a sharp increase in related costs. Uber's outstanding engineer, Uday Kieran Mediceti, wrote in a blog post that since February, Uber's weekly smart proxy requests have increased 9.4 times, but the company's total AI spending has remained the same since April. Under the premise of using the same AI model, the cost per thousand requests fell by nearly 34% from the April peak, and the cost per session fell 52% from the June high. Currently, over 70% of Uber's code change submissions are done by AI intelligent agents. The company said that Uber engineers perform more than 30,000 AI intelligent agent tasks every day, and the number of users of AI tools has more than quadrupled, but the cost of token calling has declined.
