Fortum's NuCore Energi Seeks State Aid for New Nuclear Power Project in Sweden

03:42 AM EDT, 08/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Fortum (FORTUM.HE) said Thursday its project company, NuCore Energi, filed a state aid application for a new nuclear power development in Oskarshamn, Sweden. The Finnish energy company said the Sweden-based nuclear power developer is seeking to initiate discussions with the Swedish state regarding the framework and conditions of financial support for the project. Any deal is subject to the approval of the European Commission. NuCore is looking to develop a facility that can generate 1,200 megawatts to 3,400 megawatts of electricity. Fortum noted that no investment decision has been made on the development at this stage.
