On the 26th local time, the Security Council reviewed the situation in the Middle East and Palestine. In his statement, the Chinese representative pointed out that Israel recently forcibly initiated tenders for the construction of settlements in the West Bank “E1 area”, seriously undermining the integrity of Palestinian territory and the foundation of the “two-state solution”, and must be stopped immediately. The international community must stop further harm to the Palestinian people in a timely manner, salvage the political prospects of the “two-state solution”, and do its utmost to achieve lasting peace. Fu Cong, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said that every effort should be made to maintain the cease-fire in Gaza and restore peace and stability as soon as possible; stop acts of violence and annexation and ease tension in the West Bank; and defend international fairness and justice, and push for the implementation of the “two-state solution.” The facts have clearly shown that the root cause of the lack of lasting peace in Gaza so far is the lack of political will to achieve peace, and the biggest obstacle is dangerous deliberate attempts to continue the fighting.
