Sparc AI launches Overwatch Positioning Network for GPS-denied drones

Sparc AI (CNSX:SPAI) has announced the launch of its Overwatch Positioning Network, a live service designed to provide drones with their position when GPS is jammed, spoofed or unavailable.

The network is already live for use in Ukraine, a significant development given the country's large-scale deployment and production of drones in an actively contested environment.

According to the company, a drone sends its existing sensor data to the Overwatch network through an API. Overwatch then processes that telemetry and returns the aircraft's position in roughly one-third of a second.

The notable feature of this approach is what Sparc AI says is not required. The company states that no additional equipment or software needs to be installed on the aircraft.

Instead, the computational work is performed remotely within data centres. Sparc AI also says the service is stateless, meaning customer telemetry and location data are not retained.

The launch represents a shift from deploying GPS-denied navigation technology individually on each aircraft toward a network model where additional capacity can potentially be added as the number of connected drones grows.

Moving GPS-denied positioning off the drone and into the network

The strategic importance of the announcement lies in Sparc AI's delivery model.

Conventional solutions for operating in GPS-denied environments can require hardware, onboard computing or software to be installed on individual aircraft. That creates a deployment challenge when a technology needs to be rolled out across large fleets.

Overwatch instead moves the positioning calculation away from the drone itself. The aircraft transmits telemetry, the data is processed remotely, and the resulting latitude and longitude are returned through the network.

Sparc AI says the network is designed to replicate across multiple geographic data-centre regions, with computing capacity scaling as demand increases.

If the model performs as intended, this could potentially make deployment less dependent on modifying every individual drone. That scalability is particularly relevant to Ukraine, where the company says drone manufacturers are producing aircraft at volumes reaching millions of units.

Sparc AI already has engagements with Ukrainian drone manufacturers and other stakeholders, who have been invited to access the Overwatch Positioning Network. The company expects Ukraine to play an important role in validating the technology at operational volume before expanding further into other allied markets.

Ukraine could become a crucial real-world test

For Sparc AI, the announcement appears to move the Overwatch story beyond product development and individual evaluations toward a live network service.

That does not necessarily mean large-scale commercial adoption has already been achieved. The release does not disclose customer numbers, contract values, usage volumes or revenue generated by the network.

Company staff will attend the MSPO defence exhibition in Poland in September, where meetings with several European drone original equipment manufacturers have been scheduled.
