Meta Platforms and US state attorneys general discussed the possibility of a mid-court settlement on the case alleging that the company deliberately designed Facebook and Instagram to make teenagers addicted. The trial poses a huge risk to Meta as 29 states seek to fine Meta and force reforms to the way it operates its platforms. According to Meta's own calculations, losing the lawsuit could result in fines of up to $1.4 trillion, and the settlement amount could be far less than that.
