The National Health Commission, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the National Administration for Disease Control and Prevention recently issued the “Notice on Issuing Certain Measures to Further Deepen the “Six Expansion” and Implement Family Doctor Contract Services. The notice suggests that by the end of 2026, clinical internal medicine majors, pediatric specialists, and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in primary institutions should all contract services as family physicians. By the end of 2027, second-level and third-level hospitals assigned to primary institutions for at least 1 year should, in principle, carry out contracted family doctor services. Promoting the family doctor's responsibility system for the first diagnosis in an orderly manner was written into the notice. Grassroots institutions should speed up the promotion of medical appointments and orderly triage. In principle, when contracted residents visit primary institutions, priority is given to receiving medical treatment with family doctors.
