Kingsoft topped Q2 estimates

Kingsoft's second-quarter report arrived with strong sales momentum and better-than-expected earnings. The company recorded a break-even quarter on sales of roughly $452.8 million. The average Wall Street analyst estimate had actually targeted a per-share loss of $0.12 in the quarter, and revenue exceeded expectations by more than $4 million.

Kingsoft's revenue climbed approximately 31% year over year in Q2, and gross billings for the company's artificial intelligence (AI) cloud business increased roughly 82% compared to the prior-year period. The tech specialist's non-GAAP (adjusted) gross margin improved to 15.4% from 14.9% in the prior-year quarter.

What's next for Kingsoft?

Kingsoft's Q2 print looked strong, and the company appears to be well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for AI compute services in the Chinese market. The company's partnership with Xiaomi helped spur huge billings growth in the quarter, and there's a good chance that this relationship will continue to be a powerful performance driver. While the stock remains a relatively high-risk play, strong momentum for Kingsoft's AI cloud business still leaves the door open for substantial valuation gains.
