The US stock market opened higher. Earlier, the US Treasury said it plans to expand the scale of longer-term treasury bond repurchases. This move is seen as a sign that the US wants to lower borrowing costs after yields rise to decades-high levels. At 9:31 New York time, the S&P 500 index and the Dow rose 0.4%, while the Nasdaq 100 index rose 0.3%. US stocks ended three consecutive days of decline, and the S&P 500 index extended its gains since August. The rise in 30-year US Treasury bonds drove the yield down 8 basis points to 5.20%. At the same time, the market is preparing to welcome a bid sale of 16 billion US dollars of new 20-year bonds. Peter Boockvar, author of “The Boock Report,” said, “The US Treasury is taking further action to curb the rise in long-term interest rates, and long-term US debt has risen as a result. I'm guessing that the supply of this part of the long-term bonds that have been repurchased will be replaced by increasing the issuance of shorter-term treasury bonds, especially treasury notes.” Boockvar also pointed out that this is not a debt repayment, but only a reorganization of the maturity structure of US Treasury bonds. In terms of individual stocks, Modena's stock price more than doubled, and Merck rose 9.6%. The two companies previously claimed success in melanoma vaccine research. Marvell went up and the company issued warrants to Google, and Google could buy up to $12.2 billion of Marvell shares.
