In order to deal with the huge consumption of electricity and water resources and environmental impact of data centers, the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand passed the “Royal Communiqué” on August 13, 2026 to officially promulgate regulations announcing the establishment of a data center policy committee. The committee is chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministry of Digital Economy, and Economy, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Minister of Energy as vice-chairmen, and is composed of senior officials from multiple departments. Its core responsibility is to propose regulatory policies, standards and guidelines for data center operations to the Cabinet. The purpose of the new regulations is to ensure that data centers, while promoting the country's economic development, guarantee national energy security, stabilize electricity prices, distribute water resources fairly, implement fire safety, maintain data sovereignty, and achieve carbon neutrality goals. Relevant government agencies must strictly implement cabinet resolutions and report regularly.
