In the past two months alone, the US Food and Drug Administration has published investigation reports on more than a dozen foodborne disease outbreaks. This year, the agency has published a total of 20 investigation results, while 18 investigations are still ongoing. From 2021 to 2025, an average of about 25 foodborne disease outbreaks were investigated each year. According to data from the FDA and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been about 10,500 cases of foodborne illness related to the epidemic in the US so far this year. This number is seven times the average of about 1,500 cases per year between 2021 and 2025.
