Today, the Information Office of the State Council held a series of press conferences on the theme of “Starting with the 15th Five-Year Plan”. At the conference, it was explained that during the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, China will take the initiative to advance and take multiple measures in an effort to resolve the “concerns” surrounding the masses. At the conference, it was explained that in recent years, the water quality of China's major rivers has continued to improve. The main streams of the Yangtze River and Yellow River have maintained Class II water quality for many years, yet there are still weak links in aquatic ecological environment protection: some places have “good main flow and poor tributaries,” others are “normal and bad during the flood season,” and in other places, water pollution problems “in front of and behind houses” and “beside the fields” are still prominent. According to the “Action Plan for the Protection and Treatment of Water Bodies Around the Masses” forwarded by the General Office of the State Council, in the future, more focus will be placed on water bodies around the masses to resolve outstanding aquatic ecological environment problems at the “doorstep” of the masses. First, focus on expanding coverage and improving quality management. Second, step up efforts to promote source control and pollution interception. Third, continue to deepen monitoring and supervision. It is particularly important to proactively respond to public concerns. On the one hand, reports were received through the National Ecological and Environmental Complaints Reporting Platform. In 2025, more than 14,000 water pollution complaints were received and settled. On the other hand, it actively uses satellite remote sensing, big data screening and other means to gather extensive problem clues and establish a closed-loop working mechanism for investigation, handover, verification, rectification, and marketing. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment will continue to insist on environmental protection for the people, further promote the treatment of water bodies around the masses, and strive to basically achieve “three no” by 2030, that is, no different color, no smell, and no foreign matter, so that ordinary people can feel the effects of water environment management even more.
