Hogs Post Modest Gains on Wednesday

Lean hog futures closed the midweek session with contracts 22 to 95 cent gains, as soon to expire August was down 20 cents. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $95.81 on Wednesday afternoon, down 51 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down 15 cents on August 10 at $95.94.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was down $1.33 in the Wednesday PM report, at $100.15. The loin, butt, belly and ham primals were reported lower. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday at 484,000 head, with the weekly total at 1.422 million head. That is 42,000 head above the previous week but down 19,192 head from the same week last year.

Aug 26 Hogs  closed at $95.675, down $0.200,

Oct 26 Hogs  closed at $83.550, up $0.225

Dec 26 Hogs  closed at $74.700, up $0.575,
