The Swiss government hopes to include in law the requirement to defer payment of bonuses for bank executives for several years as part of a package of measures to strengthen financial supervision after Credit Suisse went out of business. According to the plan announced by the Swiss government on Wednesday, this measure will apply to large banks, including UBS Group, which may require deferring payment of 40% to 60% of variable remuneration for up to five years. Swiss Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter said in Bern: “Sacrificing financial stability in exchange for short-term returns should never be rewarded.”
