HUYA went into this earnings print priced like a problem stock. The shares sit near ¥2.42 after a flat 1 day reaction and a drop of about 21% over the past three months. The headline this quarter is simple: the gaming and live streaming platform finally put real numbers behind its turnaround story.
Revenue reached ¥1.74b for Q2, with game related services and advertising now a much larger slice of the business. HUYA also inched back into positive earnings per share at ¥0.01 and narrowed operating losses, giving investors the first clear sign of profit repair in the core model.

Bulls argue Huya is finally proving that a pivot to game services, publishing and higher margin advertising can offset weaker live streaming and repair earnings. Q2 gives some concrete support. Game related services and advertising grew 54% year on year to ¥638m and now contribute about 37% of revenue, which aligns directly with management’s plan to spread the business across the game value chain. Gross margin edged up to 14.7%, and operating loss narrowed to ¥7m with non GAAP operating income at ¥16m. Cash and deposits of ¥3.21b give Huya room to keep funding publishing, AI projects and Jiangsu e sports initiatives. The bullish story of content driven game publishing has at least one proof point in Goose Goose Duck Mobile, which was pushed with heavier sales and marketing and achieved strong user traction, although that spend also pressured near term profit.
Bears focus on whether Huya is just swapping one pressured revenue stream for another and whether new ventures like Jiangsu e sports and AI tools will dilute returns. Q2 offers some support for those worries. Live streaming revenue slipped slightly and still sits at roughly ¥1.1b, so the core business is not growing. Non GAAP net income attributable to Huya fell to ¥36m from ¥48m even as revenue increased, partly because sales and marketing jumped 58% to support Goose Goose Duck. That raises questions about how repeatable the flagship success is without heavy promotion. Cash and deposits declined to ¥3.21b from ¥3.46b in three months, which points to a business still consuming cash. The Jiangsu project, AI initiatives and new titles all add execution and commercialization risk that this quarter has not yet cleared.
