i-80 Gold (TSX:IAU) Stock Growth Pitch Meets Deeper Losses

Simply Wall St·08/12/2026 00:46:23
Listen to the news

i-80 Gold came into this earnings print with the stock at CA$2.31 and double digit gains over the past month, a price that suggested investors were already leaning into the long term growth story. The quarter itself was far less flattering. Revenue sat at about US$24 million, yet the company still reported a net loss of roughly US$53 million and remains heavily in the red on a trailing twelve month basis.

The gap between the development heavy investment case and the current income statement is the headline this quarter. The rest of the numbers only sharpen that contrast.

Is i-80 Gold trading at a genuine discount after these deep losses, or does the rich P/S multiple leave little room for error? Compare the market price with our detailed valuation analysis for i-80 Gold

i-80 Gold’s Growth Story Faces an Execution Check

Bulls argue that i-80 Gold is building a clear path from roughly 50,000 oz in 2026 toward materially higher output as Granite Creek ramps, Archimedes comes online and Lone Tree processing lifts margins. Q2 data gives that story some support. Granite Creek mined about 72,000 tonnes in the quarter with roughly 8,600 oz produced and about 17,500 oz year to date. Development there is ahead of plan with about 750 m advanced and roughly 15 headings opened, which beats the typical 10 to 12. Lone Tree refurbishment remains on schedule and on budget with about 40% of capital committed and around half of procurement packages awarded. However, infill drilling at Archimedes and Mineral Point is slower and feasibility work has slid to around mid 2027. The growth path is intact, but key studies have slipped.

Bear Concerns on Losses and Slippage Partly Validated

The cautious view is that i-80 Gold carries heavy execution risk, persistent losses and potential financing strain if projects fall behind. Q2 results do reinforce some of that concern. Revenue was about US$24.35 million while the company reported a net loss of roughly US$52.53 million, keeping the trailing picture deep in the red. The loss is tied to non cash revaluations and high pre development and exploration spending, yet it still highlights how dependent the story is on future cash flow. Project timing also shows some strain. Feasibility work for Archimedes and Mineral Point has moved out to around mid 2027 and the Mineral Point drilling program is running slower than planned. On the other hand, the cash balance of roughly US$465 million and on schedule Lone Tree work counter fears of an immediate funding crunch.

With cumulative losses widening and heavy pre development spending, do you feel confident i-80 Gold has the balance sheet strength to fund Granite Creek, Archimedes and Lone Tree without fresh dilution? Check the full financial health analysis of i-80 Gold stock.
