A former Kroger location in Hedwig Village is being transformed into a Sprouts Farmers Market. The store is currently scheduled to open in 2027.

The Houston Business Journal reports construction crews are renovating the 46,268-square-foot former Kroger space at 9325 Katy Freeway in the Echo Lane shopping center. Sprouts will take up approximately half the building. The other half is available. Boucher Design Group is the design firm for the project.

Smithco bought the center in 2020. The center, built in 1974 is on 12 acres and has nearly 150,000 square feet under roof.

The specialty grocer debuted in the Houston area in 2013 with its first local store at 23105 Cinco Ranch Blvd., off the Grand Parkway in the Katy area. Sprouts opened four that year; one has since closed.
