10:52 AM EDT, 08/10/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Italian Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment, or Arera, imposed a 5 million-euro fine against A2A (A2A.MI) for engaging in market manipulation and affecting energy prices. In a filing dated July 30 and released on Aug. 8, Arera said it found evidence that the multi-utility company possibly hoarded economic capacity in 2022 by adopting a bidding strategy for its combined-cycle gas turbine generation units on the day-ahead market, and setting a price that was inconsistent with a fair and competitive supply and demand interaction. A2A did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
