Major 7.4 earthquake along the Pacific Ring of Fire jolts western Colombia

SAN JOSÉ DEL PALMAR, Colombia – Residents across western Colombia were rattled by a 7.4 earthquake on Monday morning, along the Pacific Ring of Fire.

The U.S. Geological Survey said that the earthquake struck at 7:34 a.m. COT (12:34 UTC) about 3.1 miles east of San José del Palmar at a depth of approximately 66.5 miles.

So far, the USGS says residents across major cities such as Bogotá, Medellín and Cali, reported feeling the shaking.

Residents evacuated homes and buildings as the tremor struck. However, the Colombia Maritime Authority stated there are no tsunami threats.

It’s unknown at this time if any damage, injuries or deaths have been reported.
