ProFrac Holding stock slipped about 3% to US$4.32 after the Q2 print, even though the numbers told a more nuanced story. Revenue landed at US$498.1 million and adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization improved to US$69 million with a 14% margin. For a pressure pumping and proppant supplier that has been wrestling with losses and a thin liquidity buffer, that margin progress is the headline.
The near term still looks messy, but the real question for you is whether today’s margin traction and the US$100 million cost savings plan can reshape ProFrac’s multi year earnings power.
Is ProFrac Holding a genuine value setup at a 0.4x P/S and a share price far below one analyst fair value estimate, or is the balance sheet risk doing the real pricing work here? Bulls argue ProFrac’s vertical integration, automation and Flotek exposure are finally turning into durable margin gains and better earnings quality. The Q2 print does give you some concrete proof points. Adjusted EBITDA improved to US$69 million with a 14% margin, up from roughly 12% and helped by efficiency gains in stimulation and a stronger April. Flotek is doing real work in this story. Revenue moved to US$102 million from US$72 million with a 19% margin and a higher mix of third party sales, which supports the idea that this is more than an internal cost center. Free cash flow is still slightly negative at US$8 million outflow, yet the improvement from Q1 suggests early traction from the US$100 million cost savings plan and capital discipline rather than growth at any price.
Bears focus on ProFrac’s leverage, cash burn and commodity sensitivity. Q2 does not fully clear those concerns. The company still reported a net loss of US$79.7 million and year to date cash outflow of about US$40 million. Total debt sits at roughly US$1.1b with only about US$72 million of liquidity, including US$19 million of cash and US$58 million of ABL availability. ABL borrowings increased to US$162 million, which highlights reliance on the revolver even as a new US$300 million facility extends runway. Stimulation margins remain around 9% and proppant margins around 5%, which keeps structural profitability in question. Recent share price moves tied closely to Middle East headlines reinforce that cyclicality and geopolitical swings are still driving the stock at least as much as quarterly fundamentals.
