Arista Networks (ANET) Stock Faces Valuation Questions After 38.4% Margin

Simply Wall St·08/05/2026 22:32:29
Listen to the news

Arista Networks is often viewed as one of the purest ways to gain exposure to high end cloud and artificial intelligence networking. Despite this, the stock only moved about 3.6% higher to around US$197 after this earnings release. That muted reaction came in a quarter that crossed US$3.0b in revenue for the first time and delivered a net profit margin above 40%.

The key point for investors is the strength of Arista Networks’ profitability at this scale. The company is now combining multi billion dollar quarterly sales with very high earnings power, which will influence how investors assess its rich P/E and growth expectations from here.

Is Arista Networks now priced for perfection after its 38.4% net margin and 61.5x P/E, or does the market still underappreciate this earnings profile? Compare the current share price to our valuation analysis for Arista Networks

Arista’s AI bull story meets key revenue tests

Bulls argue Arista Networks is becoming a core AI networking supplier with a long runway in AI fabrics, software and enterprise. Q2 gives that view solid support. Revenue passed US$3.0b for the first time with about 37.7% year on year growth, and management now points to roughly US$12.6b of revenue for FY26. That lines up with earlier commentary that AI fabrics could reach at least US$3.6b in 2026 and that AI related workloads are moving toward a large share of sales. Gross margin of 63.4% sits comfortably inside the 62% to 64% full year guide while operating margin is close to 50%. Rising product deferred revenue of about US$600m and a large purchase commitment pipeline around US$9.7b support the claim that AI demand is durable rather than a one quarter spike.

Bear concerns on dependence, costs and volatility persist

The bear case centres on concentration, aggressive commitments and earnings volatility if AI spend cools. Q2 does not remove those worries. Management still notes that one or two customers could represent more than 10% of revenue. Long term purchase commitments jumped to about US$9.7b from US$3.6b a year earlier, which supports supply but also locks Arista Networks into higher input exposure while memory and silicon costs are rising. Inventory of US$2.5b and deferred revenue of about US$6.9b highlight how much cash is tied up in timing and customer acceptance. Guidance assumes industry wide tightness in components may last until 2028, so execution risk on delivery and mix remains high even with current margins above 40%.
