Orzeyful tablets from Takeda Pharmaceuticals America, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceuticals, have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration as the first drug to treat the full spectrum of narcolepsy type 1 in adults by targeting loss of orexin signaling. The efficacy of Orzeyful has been confirmed in two 12-week, placebo-controlled studies involving a total of 273 adult patients. Patients taking Orzeyful 2mg had improved daytime alertness and fewer episodes of sudden onset compared to the placebo group. Orzeyful has been recommended to be included in the Controlled Substances Act for scheduling management and is currently awaiting a final decision from the US Drug Enforcement Administration.
