New Pacific Metals Insiders Sold US$4.5m Of Shares Suggesting Hesitancy

Listen to the news

Many New Pacific Metals Corp. (TSE:NUAG) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At New Pacific Metals

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Founder, Rui Feng, sold CA$986k worth of shares at a price of CA$6.39 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (CA$7.37). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. This single sale was just 1.5% of Rui Feng's stake.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. New Pacific Metals insiders own about CA$84m worth of shares. That equates to 7.0% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
