South Korean e-commerce giant Cool Peng announced on Wednesday that due to fines related to large-scale user data breaches, the company changed its profit from the same period last year to a net loss in the second quarter. The US listed company revealed in an announcement that it recorded a net loss of 865 billion won for the second quarter ending June; while net profit of 43.5 billion won was achieved in the same period last year. Most of Cool's revenue comes from its domestic business in Korea. A data breach broke out at the company in November 2025, and the information of more than 37 million users was affected. After the incident came to light, it triggered strong public dissatisfaction. In June of this year, the Korea Personal Information Protection Commission issued the highest fine of 624.7 billion won in history. The penalties included this data leak and unauthorized collection of data on users' online behavior. Kim Bum-seok, founder and chairman of Cool Pang, said that after the data breach, the vast majority of lost users have returned, and the scale of consumption has returned to the previous level.
