Basilea Pharmaceutica Bags Additional $5 Million Funding for Antibiotic Development

01:43 AM EDT, 08/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Basilea Pharmaceutica (BSLN.SW) received an additional $5.4 million in funding from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, or BARDA, for the ongoing development of the oral antibiotic ceftibuten-ledaborbactam etzadroxil. The drug candidate, which is a beta-lactam/beta-lactamase inhibitor combination, is being developed to treat complicated urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis, according to a Wednesday release. BARDA, which is part of the US Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, has so far funded $30.8 million to the commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company. The contract has the potential to provide up to $172 million in non-dilutive funding.
