The US Southern Command announced the launch of the “Western Hemisphere Joint Task Force” on the 4th to replace the “Spear of the South” joint task force that the US military previously fought against so-called “drug terrorists.” The Southern Command issued a statement on the same day saying that the “Western Hemisphere Joint Task Force” will coordinate the actions of the US military, allies and partners to deal with threats, strengthen regional security, and “respond quickly to the crisis throughout the Western Hemisphere.” Southern Command Commander Donovan said the force “is the operational force of the US Southern Command to deal with threats throughout the Western Hemisphere.” The Southern Command posted earlier on social media that the US military transitioned from the “Southern Spear” Joint Task Force to the “Western Hemisphere Joint Task Force” at midnight on the 3rd.
