Musk outlined ambitious goals for SpaceX on Tuesday, including getting a data center into space in 2027 and achieving $1 trillion in revenue. This is the first time Musk has spoken to investors since the company's initial public offering. Prior to the billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of SpaceX's announcement, the company released an earnings report showing that its three major businesses, space, networking, and artificial intelligence, have all achieved significant growth in revenue. As the world's largest rocket launch company and satellite internet provider, SpaceX's total revenue for the second fiscal quarter reached 7.8 billion US dollars, a 92% increase over the same period last year. Although the company's losses have narrowed in the latest fiscal quarter, huge capital expenses still put a heavy pressure on operations. Capital expenditure for the quarter reached 18.4 billion US dollars, far exceeding 2.8 billion US dollars in the same period last year. SpaceX shares closed up more than 9% on Tuesday. However, the stock fell more than 8% after the earnings release and conference call. In a one-hour conference call with the chief analyst, Musk promoted several of the company's expected goals, such as SpaceX achieving $1 trillion in revenue by 2030 and advancing the schedule originally scheduled to reach that goal by 2031. Musk and other executives also emphasized to analysts that these expenses are critical to company strategies such as building AI infrastructure.
