Australia proposes to amend the law to encourage tech giants to pay for news content. On August 3, local time, according to foreign media reports, the Australian Government announced that the “Press Negotiation Incentives Act” to be submitted for review will be finalized. According to the Act, if large technology companies do not sign content licensing agreements with Australian media companies, they are required to pay a subsidy of 2.5% of digital advertising revenue in Australia. The tax applies to companies with significant social media or search services in Australia with local revenue exceeding $250 million, and AI companies are still excluded from the bill.
