We intend to design a system that actually reduces the consumption tax rate to zero, in line with the promises made during the election.” Some Liberal Democratic Party members clearly opposed this plan because they were concerned about Japan's financial situation. Senior Liberal Democratic Party member Shigeyuki Goto, who presided over the meeting, said that among the members of parliament speaking at the meeting, 65 were in favor, 9 were against, and 1 took a neutral position. However, opposition within the party is unlikely to prevent the tax cuts from continuing.
