Pengbo Hainan Boron Zhongzi Hospital, a subsidiary of China Biotechnology Service (08037), released the first batch of clinical data: ORR of patients with terminal head and neck cancer reached 80%

The Zhitong Finance App learned that from July 30 to August 1, the 22nd Japanese Society for Neutron Capture Therapy Academic Conference (JSNCT-22) was held at Kyoto University in Japan. In the form of an oral report, the Pengbo (Hainan) Boron Neutron Hospital, a subsidiary of China Biotechnology Service (08037), released real-world clinical data on the first batch of 10 head and neck cancer patients who received boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) for three months (90 days) after treatment.

The data showed that among the first 10 evaluable patients, the complete remission rate (CR) reached 40%, the partial remission rate (PR) reached 40%, and the total objective remission rate (ORR) was as high as 80%. All enrolled patients were terminal head and neck cancer patients that could not be surgically removed or had advanced recurrence—meaning they had gone through first-line, second-line chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or targeted treatments and all failed, and their tumors were highly resistant to drugs and physical function declined significantly. However, in this patient group, the ORR of traditional single-agent chemotherapy or targeted treatment is usually only about 10% to 20%, and 80% ORR can be called a “breakthrough” performance.

Pengbo Hainan Boron Neutron Hospital is the first and currently the only medical institution approved for clinical application of BNCT in China. Currently, the core indications approved by the hospital are unresectable locally advanced or recurrent head and neck malignancies, covering more than 10 subtypes including nasopharyngeal cancer, sinus cancer, laryngeal cancer, oral cancer, tongue cancer, gum cancer, and parotid cancer.

In terms of patient services, it cooperated with banks to launch medical expenses instalment services; launched Hainan boron neutron medical insurance products with CITIC Prudential to launch the “Good Boron Friend” medical insurance to create a “insurance+medical+reinsurance+global resources” collaborative innovation model; in addition, the hospital and Huada Group launched a public welfare support program and launched 50 patient relief quotas, where each person can receive up to 100,000 yuan in treatment allowances.

With the steady progress of clinical research on indications of BNCT around the world and the formulation of relevant guidelines at the national level, this precise anti-cancer technology known as the “crown jewel of radiotherapy” is bringing new treatment hope to patients with intractable tumors in China and around the world.
