China's Huaneng announced on the 1st that the large-scale pressurized water reactor nuclear power plant built by the company and Unit 3 of the Huaneng Changjiang Nuclear Power Phase II Project, the first “Hualong 1” nuclear power project in Hainan Province, are connected to the grid. This project plans to build two 1.2 million kilowatt nuclear power units, equipped with the “Hualong 1” third-generation pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology independently developed by China, vigorously promoting the autonomy of nuclear power design and the localization of equipment manufacturing. Using a combination of active and non-active safety design methods, the reliability and safety of nuclear power plants can be significantly improved. After completion, the annual power generation capacity will reach 18 billion kilowatt-hours, saving more than 6.32 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 11.6 million tons every year, which will provide clean, safe and efficient energy support for the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
