Macau Statistics and Census Service: The unemployment rate of local residents from April to June increased slightly by 0.1 percentage points from March to May

The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to data from the Macau Statistics and Census Bureau, the unemployment rate for local residents from April to June 2026 (2.4%) rose slightly by 0.1 percentage points from the previous period (March to May 2026) in response to the entry of some fresh graduates into the labor market, while the underemployment rate for local residents (2.3%) fell 0.1 percentage points.

Among the unemployed residents (7,100 people), the majority were engaged in retail and gaming before losing their jobs; in addition, the share of newly added laborers looking for their first job rose 3.4 percentage points to 12.7% of the unemployed. Underemployed residents (6,800) are mostly employed in industrial and commercial services and transportation and storage.

Overall, the unemployment rate (1.9%) increased 0.1 percentage points from the previous period, while the underemployment rate (1.8%) fell 0.1 percentage points.

The median monthly working income of local employed residents and the employed population for the second quarter of 2026 was MOP 20,500 and MOP 18,000 respectively.
