Macau: The average room occupancy rate of hotel establishments rose to 90.4% in the first half of the year

The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to data from the Macau Statistics and Census Bureau, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms in the hotel industry rose 1.3 percentage points year on year to 90.4% in the first half of 2026. Among them, the occupancy rates of five-star (93.8%) and four-star (87.4%) hotels increased by 1.4 and 4.3 percentage points, respectively, while the occupancy rate of three-star hotels (84.4%) decreased by 1.0 percentage point.

The number of hotel guests in the first half of this year fell 1.1% year on year to 7.127 million; guests from mainland China (5.214 million) and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (857,000) both fell 2.5%; international guests (662,000) increased 12.3% year over year, with South Korea (191,000), Thailand (54,000), India (48,000), and the US (34,000) increasing by 13.0%, 43.5%, 16.1%, and 27.8%, respectively, while Japan (45,000) and Malaysia (45,000) (Malaysia) ( 42,000 visitors) The number of guests decreased by 5.6% and 6.0%, respectively.

In the first half of the year, there were 845,000 inbound visitors, a year-on-year decrease of 12.6%; the number of group visitors from mainland China decreased by 16.7% to 681,000.

Looking at a single month, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms in the hotel industry fell 2.6 percentage points year on year to 85.8% in June of this year, and the number of guests decreased by 8.6% to 1.095 million; the total number of international guests was 94,000, an increase of 3.0%. Meanwhile, the total number of visitors arriving with the group in June fell 14.2% year on year to 88,000.
