The Asian Emerging Markets Index recorded its biggest one-day gain in over 17 years on Friday, as South Korea and Taiwan stock markets surged, and market concerns about AI-related spending eased. The MSCI Asia Emerging Markets Index rose about 7%, and the Asian Emerging Markets Technology Index rose more than 13%, all of which recorded the biggest one-day increase since late October 2008. However, the two indices are still down 5% and 14%, respectively, so far this month. The financial reports released by Microsoft and Amazon last night showed strong performance, and their performance forecasts also allayed market concerns about huge artificial intelligence-related spending. “We believe that Microsoft's outlook for continued growth in capital expenditure and positive free cash flow for the 2027 fiscal year may help ease market concerns about AI infrastructure stocks,” the Nomura Securities analyst wrote.
