On the evening of July 30, the Department of Ecology and Environment of Qingyuan City, Guangdong issued an information notice: Recently, our bureau paid attention to netizens' reports of dead fish in the Yangjiang Changhu Reservoir in Yingde City, fearing water pollution. Our bureau immediately carried out on-site sampling and monitoring with the Qingyuan Ecological Environment Monitoring Station in Guangdong Province. Beginning at 8 a.m. on July 30, 4 rounds of comprehensive water quality monitoring were carried out continuously at sites in the upper and lower reaches of Changhu Reservoir in Yingde City, along the tributaries of the Yangjiang River, and the main stream of the Beijiang River. The monitoring results showed that the water quality was normal, and no toxic or harmful factors were detected. After verification, in order to cope with the heavy rainfall caused by typhoon “Hongxia,” the Changhu Reservoir was vacated ahead of schedule, causing the water level in the reservoir to suddenly drop, fish in cages were lacking oxygen, and dead fish appeared. After the water level in the reservoir was restored, there were no more dead fish. In the next step, our bureau will continue to closely monitor the water quality situation in the watershed to ensure the safety of the water environment.
