On July 29, US tech giant Meta Platforms Inc. revealed in the latest regulatory documents that in order to support the rapid expansion of the artificial intelligence field, the scale of the company's future data center leasing commitments has increased dramatically. As of June 30 this year, Meta's total leasing commitments that have not yet begun to be fulfilled reached US$279 billion, a sharp increase of 53% over the previous quarter's US$183 billion, indicating that the pace of its investment in AI infrastructure is accelerating significantly. Meta notes in the document that these future expenses, which are not yet reflected in the balance sheet, mainly involve the construction and operation of data centers, hosting rooms, and specific network infrastructure. In July of this year alone, Meta added up to $68 billion in lease commitments, which are expected to begin to be executed in 2027 and 2028. Behind this huge lease promise is Meta's “arms race” to seize the AI circuit. As demand for computing power for AI model training and inference explodes, global tech giants are locking down data center resources on an unprecedented scale. According to the data, the total amount of data center leasing commitments that leading companies, including Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Oracle, need to fulfill in the future has now exceeded 850 billion US dollars.
