J.P. Morgan currently expects the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates in December, which is earlier than the bank's previous forecast for the second half of 2027. “At Walsh's press conference, he once again failed to clearly state how he plans to achieve his tough claims to fight inflation,” Michael Feroli, the chief US economist, wrote in a report. The chairman also questioned whether PCE will still be the Federal Reserve's inflation target. “Both of these points raise questions about whether the new chairman can achieve the goal of reducing inflation.” This, in turn, may give other members of the Federal Reserve Committee a greater sense of urgency and push them to perform their duties. “We will not see this correction as a 'pressure' on the Fed by the market, but rather as another challenge to compel the Federal Reserve to take action to maintain its credibility.”
