On July 29, Iranian Foreign Minister Alagzi spoke on the phone with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Callas. The two sides exchanged views on the latest regional and international situation. During the call, Alagzi explained Iran's position and concerns about the current regional situation, and explained the ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman. The two sides also communicated about the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. In response to the recent statement issued by the European Union regarding the personnel of the French Embassy in Tehran, Alagezi categorically rejected it, pointing out that the EU's move protected French personnel's irregularities and seriously violated the relevant provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. In addition, Alagzi also mentioned the recent conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Serbija. He said that although the Ukrainian side claimed during the call that the attack on the Iranian merchant ship was an “unintentional” act, since Ukrainian President Zelensky had previously publicly acknowledged responsibility for the attack, the Ukrainian side's so-called “unintentional” claim was untenable. Alagzi stressed that the Ukrainian side must bear full responsibility for this illegal act, which caused the death and injury of Iranian citizens and the destruction of merchant ships.
