Agilysys stock jumped 7.2% to about US$110 after earnings, a sharp move for a company already riding a strong year. Yet the story behind that pop is more about quality than hype. Hospitality software is a grind it out business and this quarter the company leaned into that with record Q1 revenue of US$87.7m and an adjusted EBITDA margin of 20.8%. Subscription revenue passed a key milestone, taking the lead over point of sale for the first time. The full numbers sketch a company pushing harder on profitable, recurring growth.
Is Agilysys a rare case of high growth at a discount, or does a 72.6x P/E signal that expectations already run too hot? Bulls argue Agilysys is shifting from a project heavy vendor to a higher quality, recurring software business with stronger unit economics. Q1 gives some solid proof. Subscription revenue reached US$40.2m and grew faster than the group, and for the first time PMS subscription revenue moved ahead of POS. That aligns with the idea of the PMS acting as the anchor platform for long contracts and multi module attach. Recurring revenue stands at 65.9% of total and professional services still grew while services gross margin held in the mid 30s. Record Q1 sales and a raised full year subscription growth target to at least 32% support the claim that demand for the broader SaaS stack is still building. Adjusted EBITDA margin of 20.8% also shows the model can fund AI and product build out without sacrificing profitability.
Bears worry that hospitality cyclicality, higher security spend and competition will crimp margins and expose any execution slip. Q1 does not fully settle that debate. Adjusted EBITDA guidance for FY27 is unchanged at 24% even as revenue and subscription growth targets move higher, which hints that extra investment is still required to support the Marriott rollout, AI features and go to market capacity. Management also flags RFP access as an ongoing hurdle in EMEA and APAC, so international expansion is not yet a clear win. Professional services growth in the mid single digit range points to a more measured pace of backlog conversion. Cybersecurity spend is highlighted as necessary, yet there is no sign so far that it has pushed gross margin below the 63.5% level. The risk is that any slowdown in hospitality IT budgets would hit this investment heavier model hard.
