N'Djamena news: The Chadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a communiqué on the 27th to officially inform the UN Secretary General that Chad has decided to withdraw from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. According to the communiqué, Chad made its withdrawal decision in accordance with the conditions and procedures stipulated in Article 127 of the Rome Statute because the International Criminal Court's record of carrying out its duties since 2002 was “limited in terms of effectiveness and uneven standards” and “undeniable selectivity” in its actions. Citing official statistics from the International Criminal Court as of May 11, 2026, the communiqué said that out of 13 investigations opened by the International Criminal Court since 2002, 9 involved African countries; of the 7 people detained by the Court, 6 were detained due to the situation in Africa.
