The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to NEV Transportation Insurance Calibration Statistics, the Advanced Industrial Research Institute (GGII) shows that under the influence of multiple factors such as exemption from purchase tax halving policies, markets, and seasons, NEV sales in the first half of 2026 were about 5.108 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 10%; however, driven by an increase in the average charging capacity of bicycles in the NEV market, the first half of 2026 was about 334.7 GWh, an increase of 16% over the same period last year.
The installed capacity of new energy heavy trucks was nearly 60 GWh, an increase of 89% over the previous year
In terms of application areas, in the first half of 2026, the installed capacity of the new energy passenger vehicle sector was about 252.3 GWh, an increase of 5%; the installed capacity of the new energy bus sector was about 3.1 GWh, an increase of 2% year on year; and the installed capacity of the new energy special vehicle sector was about 79.3 GWh, an increase of 77% year on year. Among them, the installed capacity of new energy heavy trucks was nearly 60 GWh, an increase of 89% over the previous year, accounting for 75.7% of the total special purpose vehicle market share.
Lithium iron phosphate power battery accounts for 80.3% of installed capacity
In terms of battery types, the installed capacity of lithium iron phosphate power batteries in the first half of 2026 was about 268.7 GWh, up 20% year on year, accounting for 80.3%, up 2.9 percentage points from the same period last year; the installed capacity of ternary power batteries was about 65.1 GWh, up 2% year on year; 3 yuan+ lithium iron phosphate installed capacity was about 0.1 GWH, down 88% year on year, mainly due to a sharp decrease in the number of models equipped with the Zhijie R7, Zhijie S7, Xiangjie S9, and Star Era ES models.
The installed capacity of soft-pack power batteries continues to decline, accounting for only 0.2%
In terms of battery shape, in the first half of 2026, the installed capacity of square power batteries was about 327.2 GWh, an increase of 17%; the installed capacity of soft pack power batteries was about 0.8 GWh, a year-on-year decrease of 52%; and the installed capacity of cylindrical power batteries was about 6.7 GWh, an increase of 8% over the previous year.
