Aspen Pharmaceuticals has been granted the right to develop, manufacture and sell potentially the world's first monthly oral HIV prevention drug, which will put South Africa at the forefront of global efforts to fight the virus. Aspen is one of seven manufacturers under a voluntary licensing agreement with Merck & Co.'s MSD division. If the ongoing final pre-approval trials are successful, these manufacturers will produce alimatravir for 129 countries, including all African countries.
