The Zhitong Finance App learned that on July 24, Cathay Pacific (00293) announced that in view of the recent rise in aviation fuel prices, passenger fuel surcharges will be raised from August 1, 2026. Cathay Pacific emphasized that this adjustment is the first increase since April, and it is still below the April peak after the adjustment.

Among them, fuel surcharges for long-haul flights between Hong Kong and the Southwest Pacific, North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa will increase substantially from HK$965 to HK$1,362, an increase of up to 41%; for short-haul flights, flights from Hong Kong to mainland China will be increased by HK$33 to HK$198, an increase of 20%. Flights to and from the South Asian subcontinent will be increased from HK$448 to HK$633, and for other routes, from HK$241 to HK$339.

Cathay Pacific said that the current charging mechanism can effectively and timely reflect changes in aviation fuel prices. Since May of this year, fuel surcharges have also been lowered several times as fuel prices fell back then. In the future, Cathay Pacific will continue to maintain a mechanism to review fuel surcharge levels every two weeks to ensure that the charges are in line with the actual situation in the market.
